Depression
Age related depression is a very common problem for most people as they age. The most common is a decrease in the brain's levels of serotonin. Again, elevated levels of Cortisol has been shown to cause damage to the central nervous system. Drops in the hormonal levels of estrogen and progesterone can also be a factor, especially in menopausal years. In Men, hormonal changes can be related to depression and in a general lack of enthusiasm for life.

Frequent Colds and/or Flu
As we age our immune strength greatly decreases. It is less able to recognize foreign bodies like bacteria and viruses. It then allows them to replicate more frequently and with greater intensity. This causes diseases that last longer and decrease the overall strength and health of the body. the rate of the production of immune factors greatly decreases, whch means that by the time the immune system does recognize a foreign body it doesn't have the same strength with which to attack it. The body is then invaded for a longer period of time and into further weakness.
Sugar Cravings
After the ingestion of carbohydrates the breakdown of food into sugar is quite rapid. This sugar is then delivered to the blood and glucose levels rise. The faster the breakdown of food into sugar, the faster the delivery of sugar, and the higher the blood sugar levels rise. Due to the fact that the simple building blocks of carbohydrates are sugars and the bonds between them are weak relative to that of protein, a large amount of glucose is formed and delivered quickly to the blood after a meal rich in carbohydrates. It is here that insulin is called upon to scoop up all this sugar and carry it out of the blood. Glycogen stores are full and it is therefore deposited as fat.
A few hours later, most of this meal has been stored as fat and our blood sugar levels are now too low, hypoglycemia. Our body senses this and we feel tired, dizzy, and possibly nauseated. Then our body begins to crave foods that will release sugar into the blood quickly, such as sweets or starch. It is a rare individual who craves a piece of chicken when they are hypoglycemic! If you find that by 10.00am or 3.00pm. you are tired and hungry, take a look at your diet. Your breakfast or lunch was probably high in carbohydrates, creating this problem.
Difficulty Falling/Staying Asleep
A common problem with age related sleep difficulties is a drop in melatonin levels. As we age changes in brain wave activity have been documented recently, to create a major difficulty with ongoing and lasting sleep and with falling asleep also. Problems with staying asleep are caused by abnormal brain activity. The key here is essential nutrients and minerals, the use of meditation techniques, can greatly improve the sleep patterns and restfulness.
