Questions to ask the Surgeon:
When you have decided to make an appointment with the surgeon of your choice be sure to discuss any past or present medical problems, including allergies. Below are some of the questions that you should ask:
- Are you Board certified by CSAPS and ASAPS?
- Is the facility accredited by CAAASF (www.caaasf.org)
- Does the surgeon have privileges at an accredited acute care hospital for the specific procedure you are interested in
- How many procedures have they performed
- Ask to see before and after photographs
- What is the expected recovery for the procedure, restrictions, and time period for resuming work and social activities
- What is the surgeon's policy on surgical revisions and who pays
- What are the risks
- What if you don't want surgery are there other alternatives that are non surgical
- The emergency equipment and anesthesia monitoring devices in the facility, are they equivalent to those that would be necessary for the same surgical procedure performed in a hospital, or freestanding ambulatory surgery centre
- Are provisions made for hospital admission in the event of unforeseen complications
- Is there a separate recovery area with monitoring equipment equivalent to that which would be necessary for the same procedure performed in a hospital or ambulatory surgery facility
- How much will it cost
