FOREHEAD LIFT OR BROW LIFT
A Brow Lift, corrects the skin wrinkling and loss of tone that causes sagging of your eyebrows and hooding of your upper eyelids. It may also be done in conjunction with other rejuvenative surgery to achieve a more harmonious facial appearance. A brow lift is also appropriate for treatment of certain inherited traits. The procedure will reduce the horizontal frown lines at the top of your nose and the vertical lines between your brows. The result is a more relaxed and refreshed appearance.
If you have any of these conditions you may be a good candidate for a Brow (forehead) lift:
- Sagging or low position of eyebrows creating a tired or sad appearance
- Deep horizontal creases across the forehead
- Frown lines, or furrows, between the eyebrows and sometimes across the top of the nose
The Brow lift can improve all of these problems. It may often be performed at the same time as a facelift which removes excess skin and tightens muscles in the mid and lower face. If there is significant skin overhang in the upper eyelids, or puffy bags beneath your eyes, eyelid surgery may be recommended in addition to a forehead lift.
During your consultation Dr. Beninger will ask you to point out exactly what you would like to see improved. You should be very frank in discussing anything about your appearance that bothers you, as well as what you hope to achieve with surgery.
Fortunately, significant complications from a forehead lift are infrequent. Every year, many thousands of people undergo successful forehead lift surgery, experience no major problems and are pleased with the results. Anyone considering surgery, must be aware of both the benefits and the risks.
The subject of risks and potential complications of surgery is best discussed on a personal basis between you and your surgeon. Some complications that could occur include hematoma (this is an accumulation of blood under the skin that may require removal), infection and reactions to anesthesia. In some instances the normal numbness and itching that follow forehead lift surgery may be prolonged.
Occasionally patients experience minor hair loss at the location of scalp incisions, but this is usually temporary and easily concealed.
After surgery, you will have temporary puffiness and discolouration that my involve your eyelid and cheek areas as well. You may experience numbness and itchiness of your scalp. You should be able to wash your hair in a few days and be back to work within 10 days.
Dr. Beninger has extensive experience in performing these procedures and is happy to answer your questions.
