FAT INJECTIONS

Body fat makes excellent soft tissue filler material. Fat injections transfer fat from one [part of the body to another to recontour the face, diminish frown lines, crow's feet and nasolabial folds (smile lines) They also provide definition to cheeks and chin, can be used to fill out depressed scar areas on any part of the body.

Fat injections may not be permanent and may require a maintenance program of touch-up treatments 6-12 months after the initial procedure. The donor site is usually the buttocks,. thighs or abdomen and the treatment site will be injected with a local anesthetic. Intravenous fluids are also injected into the donor site to facilitate fat collection.

Fat cells are collected and processed to remove excess fluids and blood . They are reinjected (with another needle) into the desired area. The area is slightly over corrected, to compensate for some fat resorbtion in the post operative period.

The benefits of these injections are that they are natural and are NON ALLERGENIC. The procedure generally takes under an hour and there is little downtime. There is minimal discomfort which can be controlled with medication. Because the fat is your own, there is no pre-testing and the fat will not be rejected by the body.

These are a good alternative to those allergic to bovine collagen, and very cost effective if combined with another procedure like liposuction.

The longevity of the result can vary significantly from patient to patient. Not every area is appropriate for fat injection. It has been found that when fat is reinjected into relatively stationery areas such as the cheeks, lower eyelids, forehead, or jawline the results are often permanent.
