THIGH LIFT (thigh buttock lift)

The buttock and thigh lift can be performed simultaneously to tighten loose skin from sagging buttocks, hips, or thighs. A thigh lift only tightens the skin of the upper thigh. The best candidates are those who can actually grab and lift a roll of excess skin along the outside of the thigh and buttock.

Many of the patients having this surgery are those who have had a large amount of weight loss. Many have a considerable amount of skin that has lost its elasticity. With these procedures rolls of skin can be eliminated. The buttock shape improves and some forms of cellulite may disappear.

The resulting scars are the biggest drawback from this operation. The scar from a buttock lift lies in or above the buttock crease. The scar from the thigh lift lies in the crease of the leg, going from the groin in front around the inner thigh to the buttock in the back. These scars are moderately hidden, although they can widen after surgery (and they often do), and they may be visible in swimwear or lingerie.

The incisions from these operations lie close to the groin. Although Dr. Beninger can place the scars in the best possible area, the scars may become noticeable if they widen or shift. Liposuction may also be performed simultaneously. (Remember liposuction improves contours but cannot tighten skin.) Most people are happy with this procedure, however if you tend to form poor scars, think carefully before considering this procedure.

In this surgery, your skin will be numb afterwards, because many nerves to the skin are cut and because pulling on the skin makes the nerves malfunction temporarily. Commonly however, the numbness fades after several months.

These procedures are wonderful for people who have really loose skin from aging, weight loss, or poor skin elasticity. However, the scars are long, wide and may be sunken.

Recovery from this procedure is a FULL two weeks, and often includes frequent wound care, antibiotics and rest. The incisions from a thigh lift frequently stretch during the healing process.

During a consultation with Dr. Beninger, be sure to ask lots of questions.

Dr. Beninger is happy to answer your questions.
