BREAST LIFT (MASTOPEXY)

A breast lift, raises and re-contours loose sagging breasts. You may decide you would like a breast lift because you have lost volume and tone in your breasts after having children., or the result of aging or menopause. Another frequent reason for having this procedure is the loss of a significant amount of weight.

A breast lift improves the appearance of your breasts in several ways. It elevates your breast tissue, removes excess skin from the lower portion of your breast and then reshapes your remaining breast skin. At the same time , it relocates your nipple and the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple (areola) to a higher position. If your areolas have stretched over time, they can be reduced in size. Women who have their breasts lifted may also decide to have them enlarged. If this is so, then an implant is placed behind the breast tissue or chest muscle see breast enlargement. at the same time as the breast lift.

A commonly performed breast lift technique uses incisions that follow your breast's natural contour. The resulting scar, which is permanent but will fade to some extent over time, encircles the areola and then extends vertically down the breast. It may also extend underneath the breast. There are other techniques that may eliminate the horizontal incision, the vertical incision, or both. The use of any particular pattern of incisions depends on individual patient factors and Dr. Beninger's recommendation.

Following your surgery the breasts will be wrapped in a gauze dressing or placed in a surgical bra. You may be instructed to wear a supportive bra for several weeks. Swelling and discoloration are to be expected but will gradually subside. You may experience decreased breast or nipple sensation, which usually is temporary. You should be able to return to work within a week or two.

Dr. Beninger will make every effort to make your scars as inconspicuous as possible, but it is important to remember that breast lift scars are permanent, although they fade somewhat with time.

In preparation for your surgery information is provided on this site together with what to prepare the day of your surgery Dr. Beninger performs all of the procedures personally in a private surgical facility, which has state of the art equipment and is certified by CAAPS.

You should also remember that a breast lift won't keep you firm forever - the effects of gravity as you age, weight gain/loss, pregnancy will eventually take their toll. Those women who had implants along with their breast lift may find that the results will last longer.

Dr. Beninger has extensive experience in performing these procedures explained on this site and is happy to answer your questions.

Over time, a woman's breasts begin to sag and the areolas become larger

Incisions outline the area of skin to be removed and the new position for the nipple.

Skin formerly located above the nipple is brought down and together to reshape the breast. Sutures close the incisions, giving the breast its new contour.

After surgery, the breasts are higher and firmer, with sutures usually located around the areola, below it, and in the crease under the breast.

If your expectations are realistic, chances are you'll be satisfied with your breast lift.
