ARMLIFT (BRACHIOPLASTY)

There are effective techniques to reduce the size of upper arms, when the upper arms appear too large for the body, or have too much loose hanging skin. Excessive weight loss can lead to redundancy of the skin in the upper arm, which can make it difficult to wear clothing and can also be hygienic problem.

For patients who have excess fatty tissue of the arm, liposuction can sometimes offer a satisfactory solution. Dr. Beninger usually uses the "pinch test" to determine who is a good candidate for this procedure. For patients who have excess fatty tissues and skin looseness, a combined approach may be used. There is no incision placed on the arm itself, so patients have the freedom to expose their newly shaped arms after this procedure has healed.

The best candidates for surgery are men or women who have any of the following conditions:

  • Full heavy or fatty arms
  • Flabby upper arms
  • Loose or hanging skin of the upper arms
  • Arms which are large compared to the rest of the body

If you are planning on losing a significant amount of weight you will want to wait until after you have reached you weight goal, before planning surgery. If you are a smoker you have to stop smoking at least two weeks prior to your surgery.

Arm lifts and/or Arm lift liposuction are normally safe and effective operations when performed by a Board Certified plastic surgeon, with experience in the procedure. There is always a possibility of complications, swelling is normal after surgery, but it should subside in a few weeks.

During your consultation, Dr. Beninger will discuss your expectations with you and describe the procedure in detail, including its risks and limitations. Healing is a gradual process, and it takes time for the swelling and bruising to disappear and the skin to return to normal. It can take up to 3 months for all the and swelling to disappear completely.

Dr. Beninger will be happy to answer your questions on this procedure.
